Why 11 Million Women in the UK Struggle With Menopause Skin - And How to Get Yours Glowing Again!
Up to 85% of women experience skin changes during menopause - from dryness and sagging to redness and irritation (British Skin Foundation).
While falling hormones are a key factor, studies show that unstable seed oils (PUFAs) can worsen inflammation and collagen loss, accelerating visible aging (University of Bristol, 2025; Oxford Academic, 2023).
The good news? By reducing PUFA-heavy oils and switching to stable, skin-loving fats like cocoa butter, shea butter and olive oil, you can help restore hydration, firmness, and glow — even after 50.
What does “low PUFA” mean and why is it important?
PUFA stands for polyunsaturated fatty acids — these are the unstable oils (linoleic acid) found in most seed and vegetable oils. Because they break down easily, they can create stress and irritation in the body and on the skin.
That’s why we go low PUFA: avoiding seed oils and instead choosing stable, nourishing fats like cocoa butter, shea butter, mango butter etc. These support the skin’s natural barrier, keep moisture locked in, and protect against damage - making them especially important during menopause, when skin can be more sensitive and in need of extra care.
Why did I start this journey?
When I turned 50 (in 2023) my skin went very dry, especially on my feet. I couldn’t find any products to use that didn’t contain hefty doses of PUFA so I started making my own. You can see in the photos below what a huge difference my own products made to my heel. I’ve left the date information on the photos. On the before photo the skin on my heel was so bad it had started to get a deep cut in it and was hurting when I walked on it. By the after photo you’d never have known my skin was that bad, the deep cut and flaky, dry skin had healed and it no longer hurt to walk on it. I don’t even think it took that long to heal, I just kept forgetting to take the after photo! My body butter is so good it’d be a crime not to share it with all ladies that have mature skin 💗
Does This Sound Familiar?
You slather on moisturizer, but by lunchtime your skin already feels tight and dry.
You wake up with a face that looks more tired than you feel.
No matter what cream you try, fine lines keep deepening and sagging seems worse every month.
Redness, irritation, or sudden breakouts make you feel like you don’t recognise your own skin anymore.
If this feels like your daily reality, you’re not alone.
Up to 85% of women experience skin changes during menopause — and for many, it feels like their skin has simply given up.
But here’s what most women don’t realise: it’s not just hormones. The hidden culprit could be the very oils you eat and apply every day.
